James is Deputy Head (Curriculum, Innovation and Operations) at Putney High School GDST where he oversees a wide-ranging portfolio of whole school responsibilities including the day-to-day running of the school, developing a forward-looking curriculum and leading on innovation. His out-of-the-box approach has seen the introduction of Design Thinking and the adoption of Python as one of the language options for students, as well as the design of the school’s Innovation Centre and Rapid Prototyping Studio and has spoken nationally and internationally about his innovative approach. James is a Geographer at heart and still find joy teaching Geography across the school.

Tom Rattle is Assistant Head (Digital Learning & Innovation) at St Dunstan’s College, with a career in education spanning nearly two decades. A former Head of Faculty and Senior Teacher at Woldingham School, Tom has led digital strategy across both Microsoft and device-agnostic environments. He is particularly interested in user adoption of technology, AI integration in schools, and staff development. At St Dunstan’s, he is spearheading a human-centred digital and AI strategy, including a spiral curriculum for AI and a week-long AI Futures event. His work focuses on empowering both staff and students to thrive in blended learning environments.

Strategic partnerships with purpose: scalable models for community impact and measurable outcomes

Geoffrey is Headmaster of the Royal Grammar School in Newcastle, a coeducational day school with 1330 students. In 2023 the RGS was awarded the title of Independent School of the Year, after winning the category for Outstanding Educational Partnerships and then was judged Independent Senior School of the Year at the 2025 TES awards. The school also consistently wins the Sunday Times Parent Power award of North East Independent School of the Year for Academic Results and was recently given a Platinum award by Alps for being in the top 1% of schools nationally for added value. Geoffrey is a member of the Advisory Board for Schools North East which represents over 1000 schools, a Director of HMC and a Trustee of the Laidlaw Schools Trust, a multi academy trust that focusses on areas of deprivation in the North East. He is also an adult volunteer for the CCF and sits on the North East Cadet and Youth Advisory Board. Geoffrey has previously served as a Governor of the Dragon School in Oxford.

Geoffrey still teaches a class for the Extended Project Qualification each year though, despite his Classics degree from Oxford, Geoffrey has mostly taught Economics. This follows his MBA at INSEAD in France and experience as a consultant at The Boston Consulting Group as well as four years in the Investment Banking Division of Citigroup. Geoffrey started teaching at Millfield School in 2006 before becoming a Boarding Housemaster and Head of Department at Pangbourne College. He then served as Deputy Head (Co-curriculum) at Sevenoaks School and became Headmaster of Fettes College before moving to Newcastle in 2019.

Dr Richard Bustin is a teacher and school leader with two decades of classroom experience across a range of schools. Currently he is Director of Pedagogy, Innovation and Staff Development and Head of Geography at Lancing College, UK.
His research interests in curriculum thinking and involvement in a range of curriculum development projects have informed his latest book, What are we Teaching? Powerful knowledge and a capabilities curriculum, which explores the fundamental role that subjects play in a school. He has presented around the world to academic and teacher audiences and is the current editor of Teaching Geography professional journal.

In an educational world increasingly dominated by discussions around AI, this session discusses a more fundamental question about the very nature of our school curriculum. The role of school subjects in contemporary education is often brought into question with traditionalists supporting rigid subject boundaries and rigorous written exams and more progressive approaches seeking more interdisciplinary and exploratory experiences for students. This session moves beyond those binaries and offers a means to consider what makes subjects empowering for young people, and the ways in which they can enable ‘capabilities’ for young people to live life to the full. It draws on research, and ideas published in ‘What are we Teaching? Powerful knowledge a capabilities curriculum’. The workshop will enable a chance to reflect and discuss the issues presented.

Dominic Mott joined Hurstpierpoint College in September 2015 as Head of Senior School, and assumed his role as Head of College in September 2022. Dominic studied Modern Languages at Queens’ College, Cambridge and started his career in education by teaching Spanish and German at Highgate School in London. He went on to be Head of Languages at Sevenoaks School before joining Hurst.

Prior to University Dominic was an officer in the British Army and worked briefly in finance and politics. He is a keen runner, a qualified ski instructor, an amateur rugby referee, and enthusiastic wine expert.

Charles Fillingham joined Solihull School in January 2023 as Executive Headmaster from Francis Holland School in Regent’s Park, where he was Headmaster from 2016 to 2022.

During his career, Charles has served in boys’, girls’ and co-educational schools including five years as Director of Studies and Acting Head of Lower School at Archbishop Tenison’s CE High School in Croydon and eight years as the Deputy Headmaster at City of London School for Boys.

Nic Ford is the Headteacher of the Boys’ Division at Bolton School, a prestigious independent day school in Greater Manchester, England. He has been teaching for nearly 30 years, with 20 of those in senior leadership roles across both the UK state and independent sectors. Nic has a keen interest in both pedagogy and technology and how the two intersect to benefit teachers and students. Nic has received many plaudits for his work, including features in the Edtech 50 and I25 awards as well as recognition from both Apple and Microsoft. Throughout his career, Nic has been also been committed to curriculum design and data analysis to enhance teaching and learning, whist remaining focused on a people first approach to leadership.
